Legal Manager

Meent is supporting the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in the recruitment of its Legal Manager for a permanent position.

Founded on 14 April 1900 in Paris, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for cycling. Its mission is to develop and oversee cycling in all its forms and for everyone, as a competitive sport, a healthy recreational activity and a means of transport. The UCI also promotes its own events, including the UCI Road World Championships, its flagship annual event, as well as numerous other World Championships and World Cups across the various cycling disciplines. Its headquarters are located in Aigle, Switzerland, at the UCI World Cycling Centre.

Role

As part of the Legal and Compliance Department, you will play a key role in institutional and governance matters, as well as in sports regulations, judicial bodies and contract management. You will work closely with the Head of Legal and Compliance to provide the legal support required for the effective operation of the UCI.

• Oversee the activities of the UCI’s judicial bodies, including drafting decisions, coordinating cases handled by members of the department and managing the related budgets;
• Contribute to drafting documents relating to the governance of the UCI and its Continental Confederations, including the Constitution and other institutional documents;
• Oversee matters relating to the governance of UCI member National Federations;
• Participate in the negotiation, drafting and monitoring of the implementation of selected contracts (event organisation, sponsorship, media, etc.);
• Contribute to the management of strategic matters relating to the organisation and regulation of cycling;
• Participate in drafting sporting regulations for the various cycling disciplines;
• Liaise with external counsel representing the UCI in court proceedings or arbitration matters.

• Law degree; admission to the Bar would be an asset;
• 5–10 years of legal experience, ideally within an international sports federation, a sports organisation or a law firm specialising in sports law;
• Strong expertise in contract law, institutional governance and/or sports law;
• Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken;
• Strong negotiation skills;
• Natural leadership skills and ability to represent the department in the absence of the Head of Legal and Compliance;
• Excellent analytical and synthesis skills;
• Rigorous approach, strong priority management skills and ability to meet deadlines;
• Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills;
• Strong interest in sport and cycling.
